Que la lumière fut! And there was the light.....
Gujarat.....
What makes this region particularly interesting to us is that it offers high-quality textile products as much industrial and artisanal manufacturing. This time we explore the city of Ahmedabad as well as the desert region of Kutch.

The city of Ahmedabad developed around the Cotton industry. The prosperity of the city in turmoil has enabled it to develop with modernity. It invites architects of the hour like Louis Kahn and Le Corbusier to transform the urban terrain with the construction of large institutions.

After two days of unsuccessful approaches and encounters, this uninviting city makes us want to leave quickly for the Kutch desert. Just before we get discouraged we meet the magnificent Saiyed. Saiyed works as a concierge and guide at the Hotel House of MG. In the greatest chance this encounter brings us to the discovery of craftsmen and manufacturers out of the same. It is thanks to these contacts that we find among the most beautiful tissues found so far. Kadhi and silk at the verge inspire us with beautiful cousins and beautiful blouses for men and women.

The Kutch region is a border region between Pakistan and India. This rich and fertile land was over time the refuge of several tribes forced to leave for various reasons. This migration is now responsible for the artisanal richness of the Kutch. During our stay we especially lingered in the town of Bhuj and its surroundings. To have already spent some time several years ago, some reunions were well anticipated. That happiness to work directly with the artisan and to have the chance to be welcomed at home. Our purchases at Kutch are divided between two master craftsmen; Ismael, known for the "block print" technique called "ajrack" of natural dye and Vankar, known worldwide for its weavings.

The Kutch is definitely a place to explore more extensively. We hope to come back and take the time to find other treasures. More than forty tribes practise complex and unique techniques. This knowledge is endangered and the Magnificent Museum of Shrujan has given itself the mission of keeping them alive.

Too much, too happy!!! We could not have hoped for this first trip... That beautiful encounters, that great finds. We can't wait to show you all this!
Still a lot to learn but we made a wicked good first step. What we want is to convey to you a little of our love for these craftsmen and their knowledge to do. From the mountain to the city, to the desert, this little corner of India traveled is just the beginning. Today, December 18, two years exactly since our beloved mother left us, we sail in the direction of what we have always dreamed, with her and thanks to her.

A month has already passed and we are pleased to tell you that we will rest for a few days in Goa before returning to the people we love so much.
Ciao...
